Arbor Day Poster Contest
Trees are Terrific...Inside and Out
The Rhode Island Tree Council administers the National Arbor Day Poster Contest for the State of Rhode Island. For many years students, teachers, families, and guests have been invited to attend a reception honoring the state finalists of the poster contest in the State Room.
The Rhode Island Tree Council is pleased to announce the winners of its Annual Arbor Day Poster Contest for middle and high school students in Rhode Island.
The 1st place winner in Grade 5 was Melanie Bigos, Lincoln Central Elementary School, Lincoln, RI. Her poster will now be entered in a national competition conducted by the National Arbor Day Foundation in Lincoln, NE. Other 5th grade awards went to Allison Bashaw, Chariho Middle School, Chariho, 2nd place, and Samantha West, St. Augustine School, Providence, 3rd place.
The top winners were:
Grades 6-8
1st Place- Jenny Hill, Mt. St. Charles, Woonsocket
2nd Place- Tori-Lee Hammerschimich, Mt. St. Charles, Woonsocket
Grades 9-12
1st Place- Missy Conant, Block Island School, Block Island
2nd Place-Katherine Helterline, Block Island School, Block Island
The winners were selected from among 186 entrants. They were honored at an awards ceremony held at the RI State Capitol, Providence on Wednesday, March 13.

Over 75,000 fifth grade classrooms and home schools across America participated in the 2007 Arbor Day National Poster Contest. This year's theme is "Trees are Terrific... Inside and Out."
