Most Recent Graduates of the Fall 2008 Tree Stewards Education Program. Twenty- three people have recently completed the Educational segment of the Fall 2008 RITree Stewards Education Course in Jamestown, RI. This course is sponsored twice a year by the Rhode Island Tree Council, and consists of eight sessions combining classroom presentations, and guided hands-on, outdoor training. The topics they studied were: tree identification, biology, soils, site and species selection, planting and pruning techniques, the benefits of trees, tree inventory methods, and the importance of planning for and preserving trees in an increasingly urban environment. Beyond their first segment of twenty-one hours of instruction, Tree Steward Candidates are asked to contribute thirty hours to their communities in tree planting and care, planning for trees, or educational programs to receive their Achievement Certificate which completes this program for them.
